Mail Room Scare at City Hall

From the Tallahassee Fire Department: At around 11:00 a.m., a clerk working inside the mailroom at City Hall, located at 300 South Adams Street, noticed a suspicious granular substance inside an envelope and immediately notified authorities. Members of the Tallahassee Fire Department and Tallahassee Police Department quickly isolated the two employees working in the mailroom that had contact with the envelope and closed the rear access to the building. All other areas of City Hall remained open and functional throughout the incident. The Tallahassee Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team entered the mailroom wearing protective equipment and tested the substance for explosive, radiological and chemical material and determined it to be safe. The substance inside the envelope was determined to be food crumbs along with a payment invoice and check. The rear entrance and mail room were reopened at 12:44 p.m. and no injuries were reported at the scene. The Tallahassee Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Tallahassee Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the U.S. Postal Service and City of Tallahassee officials.
