What it is?: Unwelcome Visitors

invasiveFlorida is ground zero in the war with invasive species. Can anyone identify this problem plant?

  1. I call it the “Culpepper” plant because it was planted around so many of the houses that the Culpepper family used to own.

  2. I’ll look the next time I’m over on Culpepper Drive. The plant’s name is actually “Coral Ardisia” and is a serious problem in North Florida forests where it is taking over the understory (the plants that grow close to the ground under the tree canopy. You can find out more about this plant by going to http://aquat1.ifas.ufl.edu/node/42 – It’s a page about the plant that was put up by IFSA; the Florida version of the Agricultural Extension Service.
