OVERNIGHT ACTIVITY
1/18/09
- AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON, 136 Weatherbine Way West, @ 5pm (Saturday). Victims are: 26 yoa w/m, 46 yoa w/f, and 48 yoa w/m (they are all related family members nephew, aunt and uncle. Victim was outside with his uncle installing a television antenna. The victims were using a hammer to complete the installation and noise from the hammering bothered the neighbor (suspect), later identified as 27 year old Casey Griffith. Suspect confronted the victims about the noise making the following statement, “Are you F****** kidding me! Why are you hammering at five in the morning?” The victims explained to the suspect that they would complete the project later and went inside to avoid any confrontation.
While inside, the suspect walked to the victim’s yard and scattered the tools contained in the victim’s tool bag throughout the yard. Suspect then went to the front door of victim’s home and began yelling. Victim told suspect to go away and not to come into his apartment because his aunt had a gun. Suspect left, but returned a short time later with a shotgun. Suspect reportedly “pumped” the action of the shotgun and began tuning the doorknob of victim’s front door.
The victim’s aunt called 911 and Officer Carla Whitley arrived on scene and arrested the suspect before further violence occurred. The suspect stated he did not remember retrieving the shotgun and continued to believe it was Friday. Suspect claimed he was drunk during the incident.
ARRESTED:
Casey Griffith, 27 yoa. Charge: Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
- BATTERY ON A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, 2415 North Monroe Street (Belk Dept Store), @ 8:15pm (Saturday). Officer Gary Roy responded to Belk in reference to a shoplifting complaint received from the store’s Loss Prevention Officers. 28 year old Delton Styles was observed by store security stuffing clothing into his jeans in an attempt to steal said items. Officer Roy approached Styles as Styles attempted to exit. Styles retrieving the hidden clothing and throwing it as Roy approached. Styles attempted to run away and Officer Roy utilized a taser in an attempt to apprehend Styles. Officer Roy attempted to handcuff Styles, but he pushed Officer Roy into a nearby wall and fled to an awaiting vehicle outside. Officer Roy gave chase as Styles entered the passenger side door, demanding the female driver leave. The driver refused and Officer Roy attempted to utilize the taser again. Styles pushed the female driver out of the vehicle and attempted to flee in the vehicle. Styles crashed the vehicle into a curb, disabling the vehicle. Styles was then arrested without further incident. Styles provided a false name upon arrest and less than 20g of cannabis was located in the center console of the vehicle upon his arrest. Additionally, Styles had an outstanding warrant from Orange County, FL. The property that Styles attempted to steal is valued at @ $800.00
ARRESTED:
Delton Styles, 28 yoa, b/m, 6’4” 330 lbs. Charges: Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Grand Theft, Providing False Identification, Possession of Less Than 20g of Cannabis, Driving While License Suspended, Failure to Appear for Possession of Cocaine (Warrant/Orange County, FL).
- ARMED ROBBERY, 300 Block of Arden Road, @ 9pm (Saturday). Victim is a 34 year old black male and was walking along Arden Road. Two black male suspects (#1 6’1”, 180lbs, wearing a black jacket w/ burgundy/white print and #2 5’6”, 150lbs, wearing a white shirt and black shorts) approached the victim and demanded personal property at gunpoint. The victim complied and was not injured. The suspects were last seen running south from Arden Road. No other information is available.
